I freaking love YouTube ads, but if you do them wrong, you could really screw up. If you do them right, you can make a ton of money. Hey there, my name's Brad Smith, owner of Automationlinks. We have helped over 2,500 people grow online for the last 10 years.
Today I'm going to walk you through my favorite YouTube ads - and it's not the one that comes up before the video that you can't wait to skip, skip, skip. Those are so annoying. You don't want to show that to your customers. You want to create a good user experience for your customers that find you when they're searching for you. Let's dive in.
When you're setting up your YouTube ads, there are a couple of different options. Here's a quick summary:
The most important thing is you need to shut this off on TV. I've got a TV over here - I don't want to see ads I can't click, I can't go to your website on that TV. So shut off TV, just have it on tablet, mobile, and desktop.
Here's what the ads look like:
On YouTube, you'll see sponsored ads on the right side as recommended videos next to another channel. We want to have the ad in the suggested videos on the side.
You want to make it a good user experience. But what's really important is having your video as a recommended video after somebody watches something similar. For example, if I do business content and somebody's watching a marketing and advertising YouTube video, I want my ad to show up next to that as a recommended video. That's the power of YouTube - you want to be a recommended video next to either your competitors or similar channels that you know people are watching.
If you want to try this, make sure you subscribe to my playlist. I'm going to continue every Friday posting how-to videos for YouTube ads so you can learn how to do these on your own. Here is the complete guide "blueprint" for you to replicate.
Thanks again for reading, and if this post brought you any value, give me a subscribe and I'll see you in the next one!
The most effective YouTube ads are those that appear as recommended videos or in-feed ads, rather than disruptive pre-roll ads.
Set up YouTube ads through the Google Ads platform. Choose video views, turn off multiformat ads, and disable TV placements.
Yes, you can target tablet, mobile, and desktop devices. It's recommended to turn off TV placements as viewers can't interact with ads on TV.
Design your ads to look like native YouTube content, with clear but subtle "sponsored" labels to improve user experience.
Target your ads to appear alongside videos with similar content or next to competitor channels to reach interested viewers.
