How to Create Effective X (Twitter) Posts that Drive Sales

Key Takeaways: Mastering X (Twitter) Posts for Maximum Impact

  • Hook Matters: Craft a compelling first sentence to grab attention and make readers stop scrolling.
  • Trigger the Algorithm: Aim for users to click "show more" and expand your post to boost visibility.
  • Optimal Word Count: Aim for around 58 words before the "show more" button appears for best results.
  • Engagement is Key: Encourage likes, comments, and bookmarks to further trigger the algorithm.
  • Leverage Success: Turn high-performing organic posts into ads for even greater reach and follower growth.

If you want more followers, and people to click on your posts, expand them, and trigger the algorithm, you're in the right place. I'm Brad Smith, and over the last 10 years, I've worked with 2,500 people. Today, I'll show you exactly how to trigger the X algorithm to get your posts more likes, comments, retweets, and follows.

How does the Algorithm work?

The X algorithm wants users to expand your post or engage with it. The most important thing is the hook - why they should stop and read it. Your first sentence should catch someone's attention. But what's crucial is getting them to expand the post and click "show more."

As soon as they hit "show more," it triggers the algorithm. Then, that person's followers will see your post. Bonus points if they open the full image too. Opening the image triggers the algorithm, clicking "show more" triggers it again, and if you can get them to bookmark or leave a comment, that triggers the algorithm even more.

Writing the Perfect Hook

You want to calculate how many words it takes to get users to hit that "show more" button. Copy your text and find exactly how long it should be to trigger that action. Then, go back and adjust these words to make readers want to open it more. Play with the words to help them anticipate or look forward to clicking because they want to see the rest.

Ideal Word Count to Trigger "Show More"

To find the ideal word count, copy your text and ask ChatGPT how many words it is. For example, a post with 58 words might be ideal to get users to click "show more." Keep in mind that spacing between sentences affects this, so play around with it in preview mode to see where the "show more" button actually appears.

Once you've nailed the hook and word count, focus on getting users to open the post and click "show more." That's when you'll really see your post get better traction online.

  • How many words should my X post be to effectively trigger the "show more" button?

The ideal length is around 58 words, but this can vary slightly depending on spacing and formatting. It's best to experiment with your posts in preview mode to find the sweet spot where the "show more" button appears at just the right moment to entice readers.

  • What's considered the most crucial element when crafting an effective X post?

The hook, or your opening sentence, is absolutely critical. It should be attention-grabbing and compelling enough to make people stop scrolling and want to read more. Think of it as your post's first impression – it needs to be strong enough to warrant further engagement.

  • How exactly does expanding a post impact the X algorithm?

When users click "show more" on your post, it sends a strong signal to the X algorithm that your content is engaging. This action triggers the algorithm to show your post to a wider audience, including the followers of the person who expanded your post. It's a key factor in increasing your post's visibility and reach.

  • Is it really beneficial to include images in my X posts, and if so, why?

Yes, including images can be highly beneficial. When users open the full image in your post, it's another positive signal to the algorithm. This action, combined with expanding the text, can significantly boost your post's performance. Plus, visuals often catch the eye more quickly than text alone.

  • What are some effective strategies to increase engagement on my X posts?

To boost engagement, encourage users to interact with your post in multiple ways. Ask questions that prompt comments, create content worth bookmarking for later reference, and craft messages that people will want to retweet. Each of these actions – commenting, bookmarking, and retweeting – sends positive signals to the algorithm, increasing your post's visibility.

  • At what point should I consider transforming a successful organic post into a paid ad?

When you notice a post performing exceptionally well organically – getting lots of likes, comments, and retweets – it's a good indicator that the content resonates with your audience. This is the ideal time to consider turning it into a paid ad. By doing so, you can amplify its reach even further, potentially attracting new followers and customers who might not have seen it organically.
